PRO-SAIL MANAGEMENT DELIVER A CUSTOM CARBON BIMINI FOR SOUTHERN WIND 80
Pro-Sail Management have completed the delivery and installation of a custom carbon fibre bimini for a Southern Wind 80.
The owners requested Pro-Sail Management to investigate the possibilities of designing and building a custom carbon fibre bimini. One of the important design criteria was that it could remain in place whilst sailing in the trade winds of the Caribbean.
The initial design work and installation of the deck sockets was carried out during ‘Matelot’s winter refit with the build of the tooling and bimini itself continuing after she had left UK waters. Once completed, the canvas awning was designed and LED lighting installed.
The bimini was shipped to Antigua and is now installed and fully operational, meeting all the clients requirements.
Captain Angus Fuller told us ‘Pro-Sail Management did a great job on the custom carbon fibre bimini. It has exceeded all our expectations and we are confident enough in it’s design and construction to leave up during transatlantic crossings. Most importantly the Owner is very pleased with the final outcome both in terms of design and build quality. He particularly likes the LED lighting which is bright enough to eat or read by whilst in the cockpit in the evening’
The tooling and moulds are available. Should you be interested in a similar bimini please contact us to discuss your requirements.

‘MATELOT’ MAST REPAIRS
Pro-Sail Management, the UK based yacht and project management company, received an urgent call from the Captain of ‘Matelot’, a Southern Wind 80, reporting that cracks had been found on the gooseneck bracket of their 36m carbon fibre mast during one of the yacht’s regular mast inspections.
The yacht was on charter in Antigua and it was vital that this section of the mast was not put under any undue load which could have resulted in further damage and taken more time out of the yacht’s busy charter schedule. To establish the extent of the damage and advise on running repairs, Pro-Sail Management requested emailed photographs and more detailed information. They then liaised with the mast designers at Southern Spars in New Zealand, to establish the construction techniques used in this area and the likely causes of the damage.
A full investigation took place to establish the extent of the cracking and Pro-Sail Management acted as overall liaison between the yacht in Antigua and Southern Spars in New Zealand. The repair schedule was agreed and materials were sourced in the UK and sent direct to Antigua where a subcontractor was appointed to carry out the work.
Angus Fuller, Captain of SY ‘Matelot’ said ‘” We were very relieved to know that we had Pro-Sail Management on the end of a telephone. It was a very busy time for us and we had to minimise the charter downtime. Pro-Sail Management managed the project for us throughout and worked alongside us, to make sure the repairs were carried out within the manufacturer’s specifications. The service they provided was second to none and it’s very reassuring to know that they are there when we need them.”’
Pro-Sail Management have been providing yacht management and shore support services to ‘Matelot’ since 2005.

Pro-Sail Management, the UK based yacht and project management company, have signed a long term agreement with Formula Yacht Spars, said to be Europe’s largest mast builder.

The services provided by Pro-Sail Management ensured better definition for both Formula Yacht Spars clients and their in-house design team as well as increasing Formula Yacht Spars revenue from variations to the original specification.
This relationship, and the benefits provided by Pro-Sail Management, resulted in a long term agreement being signed for the project management of all high profile and superyacht projects manufactured by Formula Yacht Spars in their UK and Netherlands manufacturing facilities.
